Memorial Healthcare in Owosso adds psychologist to counseling team

Memorial Healthcare has added a licensed psychologist to its outpatient counseling team in Owosso, the hospital announced July 6.

According to the announcement, Valerie Hooper, Psy.D., a licensed psychologist, has joined Memorial Healthcare Counseling Services. The hospital said the addition expands access to outpatient behavioral health services for individuals and families in the region.

Hooper joins the counseling team alongside Stacy Schaufele, LMSW, and Sarah Tomcala, LPC, the announcement said.

Hooper earned her doctorate in clinical and forensic psychology from the School of Professional Psychology at Forest Institute in Springfield, Missouri, according to the hospital. She most recently served as CEO and licensed clinical and forensic psychologist at Vitality Psychological Services in Columbia, Missouri.

The hospital said Hooper has conducted psychological and forensic assessments for Missouri courts, law enforcement agencies, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, disability determinations and school districts. She also has experience providing psychological services in inpatient and outpatient hospital settings through previous work at McLaren Hospital.

At Memorial Healthcare Counseling Services, Hooper provides individual therapy for patients ages 12 and older and offers psychodiagnostic, psychoeducational and neuropsychological testing for patients ages 6 and older, the announcement said.

Memorial Healthcare said Hooper is accepting new patients and participates with most major insurance plans. The hospital lists its address as 826 W. King St. in Owosso and directs patients to call (989) 720-2273 or request an appointment through its website.
