Memorial's Owosso veterans breakfast Nov. 11 needs RSVP by Oct. 28
The free-seating event at the Memorial Healthcare Auditorium on West King Street is open only to veterans, and seating is limited.
If you served, Memorial Health System wants you at a Veterans Day breakfast in Owosso on Wednesday, Nov. 11 — but you have to call ahead, and the deadline is three weeks out.
The health system announced the event Thursday. It will be held at the Memorial Healthcare Auditorium at 826 W. King St. in Owosso. Doors open at 8:30 a.m. and the formal ceremony starts at 9 a.m.
The morning includes breakfast, a presentation of the colors, recognition of veterans and what Memorial describes as "special presentations from veteran speakers." The announcement does not say who those speakers are.
Memorial says the event is "exclusively for veterans." The announcement does not address whether a spouse, caregiver or family member may come along, and it does not list an admission cost.
Seating is limited, and veterans who want to attend are asked to RSVP by Wednesday, Oct. 28, by contacting Melissa at (989) 729-4780 or [email protected].
The program will also include the announcement of the grand prize winner of what Memorial calls the America 250 Essay Contest — a reference to the nation's 250th anniversary. The announcement gives no details on who could enter the contest, what the prize is, or when entries were due.
Memorial Healthcare is the hospital and health system serving Owosso and Shiawassee County, and it runs a steady calendar of public health and community events. The Current reported in August that the system brought its mobile health unit to Owosso Speedway in Ovid for free skin cancer screenings.
What happens next: Veterans who want a seat need to RSVP to Memorial by Wednesday, Oct. 28. We have asked Memorial for the speaker lineup and the rules of the essay contest, and will update this story when the health system responds.
