Ananda Yoga ribbon cutting Monday in Owosso; Ghoul's Night Out Friday
Four public boards meet, a new yoga and events center on West Main marks its grand opening, and seven football games close out the week of Oct. 12-18.
Two school boards sit down this week with a bond election three weeks out. The Durand school board meets Monday, Oct. 12, and the Owosso school board meets Wednesday, Oct. 14 — the meeting where, as The Current reported, trustees take up a change to the district's bond resolution. Owosso Charter Township and Perry Schools also meet Monday. If you have something to say to any of them before the Nov. 3 ballot, these are the rooms.
A new business on West Main
At 5:30 p.m. Monday, the SRCC holds a ribbon cutting for the grand opening of Ananda Yoga & Events Center at 810 W. Main St. in Owosso. The calendar listing does not give class times, prices or what the events side of the business will host; the desk has those questions out.
It is the second new tenant story on an Owosso main drag this season. The Current reported in August that bealls, the Florida-based off-price chain, had put a "coming soon" banner on a vacant storefront at Owosso East Shopping Center without naming an opening date. That date is still unannounced.
Downtown, libraries and senior centers
Ghoul's Night Out runs from 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, in downtown Owosso. The listing does not say whether there is a cost or where to check in.
The Children's Library at Owosso Public Library paints pumpkin rocks at 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday, with Storytime with Miss Natalie at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday and Tween Game Night at 4 p.m. Wednesday. Durand Memorial Library has Nature Painting on Monday and Play and Storytime at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Shiawassee Council on Aging hosts a Drug Take Back at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at its Durand center, an Oasis Senior Advisor presentation at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Owosso center and a Respite Volunteers presentation at 4:30 p.m. Friday at the Morrice center. October Chamber AM is set for 7:30 a.m. Tuesday; the listing gives no address. Whether any of these need registration is not stated on the calendar.
Games
Volleyball fills four nights. Corunna plays at Owosso on Monday, and Tuesday brings five matches: Atherton at Morrice, Lakeville at Byron, Mt. Morris at Chesaning, New Lothrop at Durand and Birch Run at Ovid-Elsie. Wednesday has Corunna at Lake Fenton, Owosso at Goodrich, Saranac at Laingsburg and Perry at Fowler. Thursday has Morrice at Beecher, Montrose at New Lothrop, Chesaning at Ovid-Elsie and Durand at Lakeville. Corunna's soccer team is at Laingsburg on Monday.
Seven county football teams play Friday: Chesaning at Ovid-Elsie, Durand at Mt. Morris, International Academy of Flint at Perry, Byron at Memphis, Laingsburg at Michigan Lutheran Seminary, New Lothrop at LakeVille Memorial and Montabella at Morrice. As has been the case all season, the verified schedules the desk works from list the matchups but not the start times, and schools and athletic departments still owe us kickoff times — along with several unconfirmed final scores going back to Byron's Aug. 28 opener.
