Downtown Owosso trick-or-treat noon Saturday; 9 football games Friday
Halloween comes early downtown, a Trunk or Treat follows at 5 p.m. on East Main, and every county football team plays Friday night.
Halloween starts a week early in downtown Owosso. Downtown Owosso Trick or Treat begins at noon Saturday, Oct. 24, and a Trunk or Treat at Shoe Sensation, 1417 E. Main St., follows at 5 p.m. Both are on the verified community calendar for the Oct. 23-25 weekend.
They are not the only costume dates on the county's calendar. The Current reported earlier this month that Bancroft set its trick-or-treat hours for 6 to 8 p.m. on Halloween night itself, Saturday, Oct. 31, and will close Warren Street for it.
Friday belongs to the libraries and to football. At the Children's Library @ Owosso Public Library, Create a Bag Charm runs at 9 a.m. and Storytime with Miss Natalie at 10:30 a.m. Durand Memorial Library has Kids Day at the Depot at 3 p.m. At 4:30 p.m., the SCOA Durand Center serves birthday cake, the senior center's regular monthly marking of everyone's birthdays.
Saturday morning the Downtown Owosso Farmers Market opens at 9 a.m. on Ball Street. An hour later, at 10 a.m., the Children's Library hosts "Let's Make Cockroach Portraits and Houses" — the kind of thing a parent either explains or doesn't.
All nine county football teams play Friday, Oct. 23. Five are home: Essexville Garber at Owosso, Chesaning at Corunna, Bath at Durand, Carson City-Crystal at Laingsburg and Bad Axe at Morrice. Four travel: Perry at Vandercook Lake, Ovid-Elsie at Imlay City, Byron at Marlette and New Lothrop at Cheboygan.
As has been the case all season, the schedules supplied to this desk carry no kickoff times. The Current has flagged the gap in week-ahead stories since September without an answer from schools or athletic directors. If you are driving to Cheboygan or Vandercook Lake, confirm the time with the school before you leave.
Volleyball carries into Saturday, with both Laingsburg and Perry playing at Potterville. Start times were not listed there either.
What happens next: we will keep chasing kickoff times and Friday's final scores from the schools. Scores go up as they come in at /scoreboard/. If your group has an event you want on next week's list, send it to [email protected].
