Chesaning closes Chapman Street Saturday night for Trunk or Treat
The village council also canceled its Nov. 3 meeting and cleared $334,724 in bills at a 17-minute session Oct. 6.
Chapman Street in Chesaning will be closed Saturday, Oct. 17, from 5 to 9 p.m. for Trunk or Treat. The village council approved the closure at its Oct. 6 meeting, according to the synopsis minutes signed by Village Clerk Tina Powell.
If you drive Chapman, plan around those four hours. The synopsis does not name the group organizing Trunk or Treat, does not say which block or blocks of Chapman are affected, and does not list a rain date.
The council also voted to cancel its Nov. 3 meeting. The minutes give no reason. Nov. 3 is general election day; among the questions on county ballots is the Durand school district bond proposal The Current reported on this month. With the November meeting off the calendar, the council's next scheduled session after Oct. 20 would fall later in the month.
Two Showboat Park bookings for next summer also cleared. The Chamber of Commerce asked for the park July 1, 2027, for fireworks, and again Aug. 14, 2027, for the Dry Tri. Both motions carried.
On the consent agenda, the council approved $334,724 in accounts payable dated Oct. 6, a separate Rootnote invoice of $3,445, and the minutes of the Sept. 15 meeting. The synopsis does not say what the Rootnote invoice covers. For comparison, the council cleared $135,493.98 in bills on Aug. 4 and $207,962.86 on July 21, according to earlier synopsis minutes.
Six of the seven council members were present — Hoover, Navarre, Larner, Bueche, Wenzel and Chludil. Danek was absent. As with Chesaning's other recent synopsis minutes, the document records each item as "Motion carried" without a roll call, so how individual members voted is not on the record. Full minutes are available on request at the village office, open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
What happens next: the meeting adjourned at 7:47 p.m., and the council meets again Monday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. Chapman Street closes the Saturday before, Oct. 17, at 5 p.m.
