Vernon council sets Aug. 26 special meeting on DPW raise, audit deal
The posted agenda for the 6 p.m. session at Village Hall lists an employee raise for DPW Superintendent Trevor Graves, a March 31 audit review and a three-year audit proposal from Berthiaume & Company.
The Vernon Village Council has scheduled a special meeting for 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, at Village Hall, 120 E. Main St., according to the agenda posted by the village.
The agenda lists an employee raise for Trevor Graves under items of business. Graves is identified elsewhere on the agenda as the village's DPW superintendent.
Two audit items are also listed. Berthiaume & Company is scheduled to present an audit review for the fiscal year ended March 31, 2026, and an audit proposal covering 2027, 2028 and 2029. The agenda does not list a dollar figure for either item.
Other business on the agenda includes an update from the Downtown Development Authority and a DDA bylaw amendment; a Planning Commission update and zoning ordinance amendments; an update from the Redevelopment Ready Committee; a health insurance update from Paul Hubble of the City of Durand; a discussion of bank account fees; and a Michigan Municipal League annual meeting notice.
The council is also set to consider approval of the minutes of the July 15, 2026, regular meeting and approval of bills and accounts, the agenda states. No total for the bills is listed on the agenda.
Correspondence listed for the meeting includes the July 2026 police report from Durand Police Chief Robert Brancheau, the July 2026 DPW report from Graves, and July 2026 permits.
The agenda provides for a call to audience at the start and end of the business portion. Under the council's posted rules, each speaker gives a name and address, directs comments to the president, and is allowed one opportunity of up to three minutes during audience comment and during each public hearing.
