Owosso's last brush pickup of 2026 starts Sept. 30 — then nothing until spring

If you have brush piled up in the yard, Owosso is giving you one more sweep. The city posted notice Thursday that its final brush pickup of 2026 begins Wednesday, Sept. 30, and that crews will not be back for brush until March 31, 2027.

The rules are the same as the rest of the year, and the important one is the deadline. Once Department of Public Works crews finish a street, they log it as done and do not return. "No return trips will be permitted once DPW crews have completed brush pickup on a street," the notice says. Crews start Sept. 30 and work the whole city, moving as brush volumes permit, and the city says it may take several days to get everywhere.

Brush should not go to the curb earlier than the Sunday evening before pickup starts — that is Sunday, Sept. 27. Residents do not need to call to register an address.

The Current reported in August that the city's posted monthly schedule ran through Sept. 23. The city's new notice sets the final pickup at Sept. 30, the last Wednesday of the month, and our August story on the pickup rules noted brush should be kept under 8 feet.

For anything that misses the truck, the city points residents to the Leaf/Brush Drop Off site on Aiken Road, just south of Industrial Drive. The Aiken Road Compost Site is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until the end of what the city calls leaf season. It is for city residents only, and proof of city residency must be presented. The notice also says grass clippings are now accepted there.

The city did not post an end date for leaf season, so the last Saturday the Aiken Road site will be open is not yet known.

What happens next: Curb your brush no earlier than the evening of Sunday, Sept. 27. Crews begin Wednesday, Sept. 30, and once your street is marked complete, the next brush pickup is March 31, 2027.
