Owosso leaf crews clear 10 of 16 sections; N6 starts Thursday

The city says public works crews finished through S5 by Wednesday and are nearly done with S6, leaving five sections still waiting for a first pass.

If your leaves are still at the curb in the back half of Owosso, the city's latest update tells you roughly how long the wait is. In a notice posted Wednesday, Oct. 28, the City of Owosso said DPW crews have completed sections N1, S1, S2, N2, N3, S3, S4, N4, N5 and S5 — 10 of the 16 sections on the city's leaf route.

Crews are "almost done with S6," the city said, and will move into N6 on Thursday. That leaves N6, N7, S7, S8 and N8 — the last five sections — still ahead.

The order does not change. The city again published the full sequence: N1, S1, S2, N2, N3, S3, S4, N4, N5, S5, S6, N6, N7, S7, S8, N8.

The Current reported on Oct. 20 that crews had finished N1, S1 and S2 and were moving into N2 and N3. In the eight days since, the city has worked through seven more sections — a pace of roughly one section a day, which is the closest thing residents have to an estimate of when crews reach their street.

That estimate matters because the city still has not published a map or street list showing which section any given address falls in. We flagged that gap on Oct. 20, and the Oct. 28 update does not fill it: it lists section codes and nothing else. Without a map, a resident reading "crews will move into N6 tomorrow" has no way to know whether that is their block.

The leaf sweep is the last curbside collection of yard waste of the season on the city's published schedule. The Current reported in September that Owosso's final brush pickup of 2026 began Sept. 30, with crews not returning for brush until March 31, 2027.

What happens next: crews finish S6 and begin N6 on Thursday, Oct. 29, then work in order through N7, S7, S8 and N8. The city posts updates to its news page at ci.owosso.mi.us. We have asked no one at the city for a section map; the request remains an open item on our list, and the DPW has not posted one.
