Owosso police warn of scam calls spoofing the department's own number
Callers posing as officers claim you missed a court date, say there's a warrant, and demand immediate bond payment. The department says verify by calling its non-emergency line directly.

The Owosso Police Department received numerous reports from residents contacted by someone spoofing the department's own phone number, the city said in a July 7 alert.
According to the department's statement, the caller identifies themselves as a police officer or detective and claims the recipient missed a court date related to a subpoena they supposedly signed. The caller then says there is a warrant for their arrest, that they owe a large sum of money, and demands immediate payment of a bond — threatening arrest if they do not comply.
The department said anyone unsure whether a call is legitimate should contact the Owosso Police Department directly at its non-emergency number, 989-725-0590.
What happens next: Report scam calls to the department's non-emergency line. Police do not demand bond payments by phone.
