Owosso football opens with 42-20 loss at Pinckney
The Trojans' season opener is the only Friday final logged by our score desk; results from Mesick at Byron and Ovid-Elsie at Lowell were not available at deadline.
Owosso's football season started with a 42-20 loss at Pinckney on Friday night, according to the verified results dossier kept by The Shiawassee Current's score desk.
That is the only final from Friday, Aug. 28 that our desk has confirmed. Two other county games played that night — Mesick at Byron football and Ovid-Elsie at Lowell soccer — had not come back as final at deadline, and we are not reporting a score for either until they do.
The trip to Pinckney was the first of five road games on the Trojans' verified eight-game schedule, which The Current published Aug. 10. Owosso has three home dates this fall and travels to Corunna on Sept. 25.
Friday's game closed out a two-night stretch that opened the season across the county. As we reported, Durand beat Corunna 14-13 on Thursday, and New Lothrop won its home opener 54-0 while two other county teams lost Thursday openers.
A few results from that same stretch are still owed to readers. Our desk is still working to confirm the finals from Potterville at Perry soccer, Durand at Swartz Creek soccer and Potterville at Byron volleyball, all played Aug. 27, along with Saturday night's Byron at Perry volleyball match — the county's only game that day. We have logged scores this week, not play-by-play, so we are not attaching records, streaks or standings to any team until completed results support them.
What happens next: the county records page updates from logged scoreboard results heading into next week's games. Scores post to the live scoreboard at /scoreboard/ and update there through the night.
