Durand 28, Mt. Morris 10; Byron falls 55-7 on Friday
Two county football finals were in from Friday night, with five more county games still unfinished at deadline.
Durand put up 28 points and held Mt. Morris to 10 on Friday night, the first confirmed county football final of the evening, according to the county scoreboard results confirmed by our score desk.
The other final in hand was not as kind. Byron scored 7 against Memphis, which finished with 55.
Our score desk logs scores, not plays, so there is no scoring summary for either game, and neither result carries a site or quarter-by-quarter breakdown in the verified dossier.
Five county games had no final at deadline: Chesaning at Ovid-Elsie, International Academy of Flint at Perry, Laingsburg at Michigan Lutheran Seminary, New Lothrop at LakeVille Memorial and Montabella at Morrice. We are not reporting a score for any of those until the desk confirms one.
That leaves the Friday slate on top of a backlog this desk has been carrying for two weeks. As The Current reported Oct. 14, the score desk is still owed finals from four Oct. 9 football games — New Lothrop at Chesaning, Perry at Laingsburg, Durand at Birch Run and Ovid-Elsie at Montrose — plus Morrice at Hillman on Oct. 10 and seven of the eight games played Oct. 2. Five county volleyball finals from Oct. 13 and four from Oct. 14 are also unreturned.
Byron's season, per the verified nine-game 8-player schedule The Current published in August, closes Oct. 23 at Marlette.
What happens next: the five unfinished games will be posted on the live scoreboard at /scoreboard/ as they are confirmed. Scores update there through the night.
