Corunna beats Owosso 28-7; Ovid-Elsie edges Durand 30-27

Corunna beat Owosso 28-7 at home Friday night, and Ovid-Elsie held off Durand 30-27, settling the two in-county football games on a six-final September evening across Shiawassee County.

Those were the games the county was watching. The Current previewed both Friday afternoon, and neither had a confirmed final when our late-night roundup published. Both do now, along with four more.

Ovid-Elsie's three-point win over Durand was the closest finish involving a county team. The night's other one-score game went the other way: Fulton beat Morrice 36-34.

The rest of the county board

Chesaning beat Birch Run 28-22 at home. Perry beat Bath 28-3, the one final our score desk had in hand at deadline Friday. Byron shut out Mayville 35-0 in Byron.

Byron's win comes with a loose end this desk has been carrying since August. The Eagles' home opener against Mesick on Aug. 28 has still never been confirmed, which leaves Byron's logged record incomplete. Byron High School and the score desk owe that final.

Two county games from Friday remain unfinished business. Laingsburg's trip to Pewamo-Westphalia and New Lothrop's home game against Mt. Morris had no result available at deadline. We are not reporting a score for either until the schools or the score desk confirm one.

What happens next

The desk is still owed finals from Laingsburg and New Lothrop, from the 10 county football games played Friday, Sept. 18, and from the midweek slates of Sept. 22, 23 and 24 — nine games Tuesday and six each Wednesday and Thursday.
