Corunna falls 49-7 at Goodrich; five county finals still out
The Cavaliers' loss is the third confirmed Shiawassee County football final from Friday, Oct. 9 — but New Lothrop at Chesaning, Perry at Laingsburg, Durand at Birch Run and Ovid-Elsie at Montrose still have no score on the board.
Corunna lost 49-7 at Goodrich on Friday, Oct. 9, according to the county scoreboard results confirmed by our score desk. It is the third and newest confirmed Shiawassee County football final from that night.
The other two were reported here late Friday: Byron lost 48-28 to Merritt Academy, and Owosso lost 48-20 to Ortonville Brandon. All three county teams with confirmed results lost, and all three gave up at least 48 points.
Beyond that, Friday night is still half-dark. Five county results had not been returned as of this dossier: New Lothrop at Chesaning, Perry at Laingsburg, Durand at Birch Run and Ovid-Elsie at Montrose in football, plus Durand's soccer match at Genesee Christian. The score desk logs only confirmed finals, so until the schools or the scoreboard post those games, we are not publishing a number for them.
Two of those unreturned games are the ones county fans most wanted: New Lothrop at Chesaning and Perry at Laingsburg are in-county meetings. The Current reported in August that Laingsburg's verified schedule had the Wolfpack hosting Perry on Oct. 9, a date both programs have had circled since the summer.
This is now a pattern rather than a one-night problem. Seven of the eight county football finals from Oct. 2 — including Owosso at Goodrich, Chesaning at Mt. Morris, Montrose at Durand, Saranac at Perry, Ovid-Elsie at New Lothrop, Bath at Laingsburg and Morrice at Coleman — remain unreturned a week later. Byron has still not confirmed the final from its Aug. 28 home opener against Mesick, six weeks on, which is why this desk cannot publish the Eagles' season record. We also still have no date, site or scoring summary for Corunna's 28-7 win over Owosso.
Because of those gaps, nothing here should be read as a record, a streak or a standing. The desk logged scores on Friday, not plays: there are no scoring summaries for the Corunna, Byron or Owosso games, and we will not reconstruct how any of them were played.
What happens next: the five outstanding Oct. 9 results, the seven missing Oct. 2 finals and Byron's August opener are all still owed by the schools and the live scoreboard. We will publish each one as it is confirmed. Scores update through the night at the live county scoreboard.
