Shiawassee Arts Center opens holiday class signups in Owosso

Registration pages are up for a wreath making class and a fused glass "Winter: A Holiday S Curve" piece — but the listings we have carry no date, time or price.

If you are looking for something to sign up for before Thanksgiving, the Shiawassee Arts Center in Owosso has put two holiday classes on its books: a wreath making session and a fused glass class the center is calling "Fused Glass Winter: A Holiday S Curve Glass Piece."

Both are being handled through the center's online checkout pages, which is how the center takes registrations for its classes and workshops.

What those pages do not tell a reader is almost everything a family needs in order to plan. The listings in front of us carry no class date, no start time, no price, no age or skill level, and no indication of how many seats are left — or whether either class is already full. A wreath class and a glass-fusing class are very different propositions for a 10-year-old, and nothing in the posted material says who each one is meant for.

Fused glass work is kiln work: pieces are assembled cold and then fired, which generally means a return trip to pick up the finished piece. Whether that is how the Arts Center is running this one — and how long the firing turnaround takes — is not stated in the listing.

This is the second time this month the desk has run into a county event posted without the basics. The Current reported Oct. 21 that the Village of Byron's website had published a "Fall Festival" notice with no date, no time and no location, and those questions are still open.

What happens next: the registration links are live, so anyone interested can check the checkout pages for the current price and remaining seats, which is where those details would appear first. The Current has the two class dates, the cost, the skill level and the seat count down as open threads and will post them when the Arts Center publishes them.
