Perry posts early voting notice for Nov. 3 — no site or hours listed
The city put up its early voting precinct and hours notice for the Nov. 3 general election on Tuesday, but the page carries only file names — the second Perry election-or-utility notice this month whose details are not readable online.
If you plan to vote early in Perry this fall, the city says the information exists. It just isn't on the page.
The City of Perry posted an "Early Voting Site Information" item on its website Sept. 15 for the Nov. 3 general election. The post points to two documents: an early voting site precinct and hours notice, and a notice of the Board of Canvassers meeting tied to the early voting site. Neither the location of the site, the dates it will be open, nor the hours appear in the posting itself.
Michigan voters now have a stretch of in-person early voting days before statewide elections, in addition to absentee ballots and Election Day voting at the regular precinct. Which building Perry voters use, and on which days, is exactly what the linked notice is supposed to answer.
This is the second time this month a Perry notice has landed without the detail that makes it useful. The Current reported Sept. 10 that the city had posted a notice of public hearing on water and sewer rates — the rate decision the council pushed off in August — without a readable date, time or proposed rate. That hearing date is still not on file with us.
Perry voters do have one prior data point. The city's own list of recent postings shows its August primary early voting notice came from the Shiawassee County Clerk and was addressed to the qualified electors of multiple municipalities, which is how early voting sites are commonly shared. Whether the Nov. 3 site is the same one is not stated in Tuesday's posting.
The Board of Canvassers notice is the other half. Canvassers verify and certify results, and notices of their meetings are public so anyone may attend.
What happens next: The Current has added the early voting site, dates and hours to the questions it is asking the Perry city clerk, along with the still-unanswered water and sewer hearing date.
