Durand school board votes Monday on staff pay scale, FFA trips
The Sept. 14 agenda lists a non-affiliated employee salary schedule, two FFA travel items and two months of financial reports — but no descriptions of any of them.
The Durand Area Schools board meets at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, with five items up for a vote — including the salary schedule for employees who are not covered by a union contract, and two separate trips for the district's FFA students.
The agenda posted to BoardBook lists the action items by title only. Under "Votes and Resolutions" are MASB delegates, the non-affiliated employee salary schedule, the middle school course catalog, the National FFA Convention and the FFA State Leadership Conference. No dollar figures, no descriptions and no attachments are posted with any of the five, so the agenda does not say what the pay schedule would be, who is covered by it, or what the two FFA trips would cost the district.
The non-affiliated schedule is the one that touches payroll. In most districts that category covers administrators, office staff and other employees outside the teacher and support-staff bargaining units. What Durand's board is being asked to set is not on the public agenda.
The consent agenda holds the minutes of the board's Aug. 3 regular meeting, a personnel item with no summary attached, and two months of financial reports — July 2026 and August 2026 — posted this week. The meeting also opens with student recognition, which the agenda does not name.
Notably absent from Monday's list: the bond. The Current reported Sept. 2 that Durand Area Schools has a $30.29 million building bond proposal on the Nov. 3 county ballot, one of 15 proposals going to Shiawassee County voters. The board authorized a bond election at its Aug. 3 meeting, which The Current also covered. Nothing on the Sept. 14 agenda references the proposal or the campaign calendar, though the superintendent's report and building reports are open-ended.
Five building and department reports are attached for the reports section, including one from athletics dated Sept. 9.
What happens next
The board meets Monday at 7 p.m. Public comment comes after the votes, not before them. The next regular meeting is set for Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, with a Committee of the Whole on Oct. 28 at the same time and place. The Current will report the outcome of the salary schedule and FFA votes when minutes or the meeting packet are available.
