Three members of the Ovid-Elsie Area Schools Board of Education's policy committee are scheduled to sit down at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, at the district administration office, 8989 E. Colony Road in Elsie, to work on what the public notice calls a "Fall Policy Update."

That is the entire description. The notice, signed by board secretary Becky Williams, lists a date, a place, an hour and a purpose. It does not name a single policy, does not say how many are under review, and does not say whether the committee is recommending changes to the full board or simply reading through them.

School board policy is the rulebook a district runs on — everything from how long a student can be suspended to how public comment works at a meeting to what a staff member has to report and to whom. A policy committee does not adopt anything on its own; recommendations go to the full Board of Education for a vote. The notice does not say when that vote would happen.

Committee meetings at Ovid-Elsie are open to the public and are where much of the board's detailed work gets done. The Current reported this month that the district's 2025-26 audit review drew one committee member for 41 minutes. The Current also reported in August that the board's facilities committee ran contractor and architect interviews — GMB and Kingscott for architectural services, Clark and Christman for construction management — in the high school student lounge over several days, as the district prepares a bond case.

Anyone who needs an accommodation to attend can request one through the superintendent; the notice says the district will make reasonable accommodations for a disabled person to participate. The board's principal office number is 989-834-2271, and board minutes are kept at the administration office on E. Colony Road.

What happens next: The committee meets at 6 p.m. Nov. 10 in Elsie. Any policy changes it recommends would have to come back to the full board at a regular meeting before they take effect. The desk will ask the district for the policy list ahead of the meeting and will report what the committee sends forward.
