New Lothrop school board: 2025-26 audit, baseball drainage bid Monday

Eight action items follow the audit, and three of them commit money the posted agenda does not quantify: a bid for drainage work at the baseball field, a furniture purchase, and overnight FFA trips. No bid amounts, vendors, trip destinations or student counts are attached to the agenda. The same gap has followed FFA travel across the county this month — The Current reported that Durand's board was asked Sept. 14 to approve trips to the National FFA Convention and the state leadership conference with no cost or student count on its agenda either, and that question is still open.
Trustees will also vote on the first-semester online, dual enrollment and SRESD career-tech roster, an Edgenuity course list, the high school course catalog, an Edustaff scope-of-service addendum, and the resignation of Latchkey aide Leandra Birchmeier.
The monthly financial report on the agenda shows the district started the period with $2,759,018.62, took in $1,180,611.93 and spent $882,737.33, leaving an ending balance of $3,056,893.22.
The agenda also carries an unusually long set of public comment rules. Speakers get three minutes and may speak once. Comments must be directed to the board as a whole, not to individual trustees or staff members, and the board will not respond — the superintendent follows up afterward. The agenda warns that complaints about a specific person or incident belong in administrative channels, and that remarks amounting to defamation or invasion of privacy "may carry legal consequences," advising anyone unsure to consult a lawyer first.
Principals Kim Kuchar, Drew Severn and Marty Weese are down for a principal and athletic report, a student representative reports, and the policy committee reports on its Sept. 9 meeting. A closed session is listed before adjournment, with no subject given.
What happens next: The board meets Monday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. in the High School Media Center. The Current will report the audit findings and the dollar amounts on the drainage bid, furniture purchase and FFA trips once they are on the record. The next regular meeting is Monday, Oct. 19, also at 6 p.m. in the media center.
