Morrice at Hillman: Oct. 10 final still unreported, Orioles 2-3
The Orioles kicked off at 3 p.m. Saturday carrying a 2-3 logged record, and with two Fridays left in the regular season this desk still has no final from that game or from four Oct. 9 county football games.
Morrice kicked off at Hillman at 3 p.m. Saturday with a 2-3 record on our books. As of this writing, no final from that game has come back to us.
That matters more in the second week of October than it would in August. Our published 2026 schedules have Chesaning closing Oct. 23 at Corunna and Byron closing Oct. 23 at Marlette, which leaves two Fridays in the regular season. Records are the starting point of every playoff conversation, and right now this desk cannot state a verified record for most county teams because the finals have not been returned.
Morrice plays 8-player football and opened the season Aug. 27 on the road at Brown City, the first stop on a nine-game schedule with five home dates, as The Current reported in August. The 2-3 mark above is computed only from games we have logged — it is what we can confirm, not necessarily the Orioles' official record.
Four football finals from Friday, Oct. 9 are still outstanding: New Lothrop at Chesaning, Perry at Laingsburg, Durand at Birch Run and Ovid-Elsie at Montrose. Durand's soccer match at Genesee Christian is also unreturned. One Oct. 9 game did come back — Corunna's 49-7 loss at Goodrich, which we reported Saturday.
The backlog runs deeper than Friday. Seven of eight county football finals from Oct. 2 remain unconfirmed, including Owosso at Goodrich, Chesaning at Mt. Morris, Montrose at Durand, Saranac at Perry, Ovid-Elsie at New Lothrop and Bath at Laingsburg. Byron has still not confirmed the final from its Aug. 28 home opener against Mesick, six weeks after the game, which is why we have not printed the Eagles' record. And while we have reported a 28-7 Corunna win over Owosso, we still have no date, site or scoring summary for it.
We will not publish a score or a record we cannot verify against a school or the county scoreboard. That is the reason these lists keep appearing at the bottom of our football coverage instead of a tidy standings table.
What happens next: the schools and the county scoreboard owe the finals, and we will post each one as it lands. Two Fridays remain in the regular season. Every county score updates live during games at shiawassee.news/scoreboard, and live scores appear right on the shiawassee.news homepage — free, no app, no paywall.
