Shiawassee County week ahead: four public meetings, PFC Cantu 5K, 18 games
Owosso and Corunna boards meet Monday, Chesaning on Tuesday and Ovid-Elsie on Wednesday, with a library relocation talk, a downtown 5K and 18 school games filling the rest of the week of Aug. 17-22.

Four public bodies in Shiawassee County have meetings on the calendar between Monday and Wednesday, according to posted agendas compiled in The Shiawassee Current's week-ahead dossier for Aug. 16 through Aug. 23. Residents can attend each one, and agendas are posted in advance.
Government meetings
Monday, Aug. 17: Corunna Schools and the Owosso City Council both meet. Tuesday, Aug. 18: the Chesaning Village Council meets. Wednesday, Aug. 19: the Ovid-Elsie school board meets in Ovid. Those four are the only public meetings listed on the county calendar for the week.
Community events
On Tuesday, Aug. 18, the Owosso Public Library hosts "Coffee and Conversation: Owosso Library Relocation" at 10 a.m. in the library meeting room. The same evening, the Durand Memorial Library holds "The Library on the Road: Meet the Teacher Night" at 5 p.m.
On Thursday, Aug. 20, the PFC Cantu 5K runs from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m., from downtown streets to the American Legion post in Owosso. On Saturday, Aug. 22, the Owosso Public Library's Children's Library holds "Fun with Summer Leftovers" at 10 a.m.
Games this week
Eighteen county school contests are on verified schedules. Wednesday, Aug. 19: Reese at New Lothrop (volleyball); Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy at Perry (soccer); Corunna at Durand and Perry at Durand (volleyball); Alma at Ovid-Elsie (soccer).
Thursday, Aug. 20: Genesee Christian at Laingsburg, Chesaning at Owosso and Kearsley at Durand, all soccer. Friday, Aug. 21: St. Johns at Ovid-Elsie (soccer).
Saturday, Aug. 22, is the busiest day. Volleyball: Kearsley at Durand, Corunna at Durand and Lansing Christian at Durand. Soccer: Ovid-Elsie at Corunna, Durand at Owosso, Corunna at Durand, Ovid-Elsie at Owosso, Ovid-Elsie at Durand and Corunna at Owosso.
