Here is what is on the public calendar in Shiawassee County for the week of Sunday, Aug. 23, through Sunday, Aug. 30, 2026. Every item below comes from posted agendas, the community calendar or verified school schedules.

Government meetings

One public meeting is on the schedule this week. The Vernon Village Council meets Wednesday, Aug. 26. Agendas for the meeting are posted publicly and residents may attend.

Community events

Monday, Aug. 24: Create with Beads at the Children's Library, Owosso Public Library. The Durand Memorial Library board meets at 5:30 p.m. Monday at the library.

Wednesday, Aug. 26: The YMCA/SDL Book Club discusses "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" at 10 a.m. at an offsite location. Planning with Christina is at 3 p.m. at the SCOA Owosso Center. Thursday, Aug. 27: a Matter of Balance class at 5 p.m. at the SCOA Owosso Center, which requires registration.

Friday, Aug. 28: Birthday Cake at 4:30 p.m. at the SCOA Durand Center. Owosso Vintage Motorcycle Days begins at 6 p.m. in downtown Owosso. The event continues Saturday, Aug. 29, from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Washington Street and through downtown. The Downtown Owosso Farmers Market opens at 9 a.m. Saturday.

Monday, Aug. 24: Carman-Ainsworth at Laingsburg and Linden at Durand, both soccer. Tuesday, Aug. 25: Ovid-Elsie at Pinckney (volleyball), Perry at Birch Run (soccer), Clio at Chesaning (soccer), Charyl Stockwell Preparatory Academy at Byron (volleyball) and Ovid-Elsie at Lakeshore (soccer).

Wednesday, Aug. 26: Durand at Swartz Creek (volleyball), Owosso at Fowlerville (soccer), Hemlock at Chesaning (volleyball), Durand at Lansing Eastern (soccer), Bath at Laingsburg (volleyball) and Perry at Pewamo-Westphalia (volleyball).

Thursday, Aug. 27, is the county's big football night: Morrice at Brown City, Corunna at Durand, Standish-Sterling at Chesaning, Perry at Addison, Tri County Area at Ovid-Elsie, Vandercook Lake at Laingsburg and Muskegon Catholic Central at New Lothrop. Also Thursday: Potterville at Perry (soccer), Durand at Swartz Creek (soccer) and Potterville at Byron (volleyball). Friday, Aug. 28: Ovid-Elsie at Lowell (soccer) and Owosso at Pinckney (football).
