Chesaning at Durand leads 7 Friday football games in Shiawassee County
Seven county football teams play Friday night, the Durand library runs craft day and a family movie, and Saturday brings the Owosso farmers market and championship night at Owosso Speedway in Ovid.
The only county-against-county football game this weekend is Friday night in Durand, where Chesaning visits the Railroaders. The other six county teams travel: Owosso at Lake Fenton, Corunna at Clio, Perry at Pewamo-Westphalia, Ovid-Elsie at LakeVille Memorial, Laingsburg at Fowler and New Lothrop at Montrose. Kickoff times were not listed on the verified schedules the desk worked from.
Two more football games fill Saturday: Deckerville at Byron and Morrice at Portland St. Patrick. Laingsburg has the busiest Saturday in the county with four road trips — volleyball at Williamston and soccer at Kettering, Fowlerville and Swartz Creek.
Away from the fields, Friday belongs to the libraries and the senior center. Durand Memorial Library runs a Fall Craft Day for all ages at 2 p.m. in the Main Room, then follows it at 6 p.m. with a family movie night showing "Hocus Pocus" in the same room. The Shiawassee Council on Aging's Morrice Center offers free hearing checks at 2 p.m.
Owosso Public Library has Storytime with Miss Natalie on Friday in the Children's Library. The community calendar lists the start time as 10:30 p.m.; the desk has asked the library to confirm whether that should read 10:30 a.m. On Saturday the Children's Library makes Fall Smells Playdough at 11 a.m.
Saturday morning starts where it usually does downtown: the Downtown Owosso Farmers Market opens at 9 a.m. Durand Memorial Library repeats its Fall Craft Day at 10 a.m. And if you have a garage full of old paperwork, Dort Financial Credit Union holds a shred day at 10 a.m. at 5091 W. Pierson Road in Flint — outside the county, but the closest one on this weekend's calendar. Limits on how much you can bring were not listed.
Saturday night is Young Owosso Championship Night 2 at Owosso Speedway, 7204 W. M-21 in Ovid, presented by Young Chevrolet. The Current reported this week that the card includes a 50-lap modified finale.
