Durand library book sale, Owosso market fill Cruisin' Saturday

Saturday is the day this weekend. The Friends of the Library set up on the lawn at Durand Memorial Library at 10 a.m. Sept. 5 for their Cruisin' Saturday book sale, and the sale is outdoors for a reason: the library building itself is on the county calendar as closed that day for the Labor Day weekend, along with Owosso Public Library.

The book sale is timed to Durand's Cruisin' Saturday, the car event that brings traffic through town. What the desk still does not have is the rest of it — the hours, the route and which streets close and when. We flagged that gap in our Aug. 30 week-ahead story and it is still open. If you are planning around downtown Durand on Saturday, check with the city or the event organizers before you go.

In Owosso, the Downtown Owosso Farmers Market opens at 9 a.m. as usual on Saturday morning.

The SCOA Morrice Center hosts euchre at 5 p.m. Saturday. It is a senior center event and it runs on the center's regular schedule; the calendar entry does not list a fee or say whether players need a partner.

The library closings are the practical item to note. The Current reported on Aug. 30 that both Durand Memorial Library and Owosso Public Library would close Saturday for the holiday weekend. If you have holds waiting or a return due, plan for Friday or for next week. The calendar entry covers Saturday only and does not say when either building reopens.

The verified calendar for this weekend lists no school games and no Friday events. That does not mean nothing is scheduled — schools and venues post on their own timelines — so the live scoreboard at /scoreboard/ is the place to check for game nights and results as they come in.
