Vintage Motorcycle Days fills downtown Owosso Friday and Saturday
The festival takes over Washington Street on Saturday, the farmers market opens at 9 a.m., Owosso Speedway starts its championship nights in Ovid, and 13 school games fill the weekend.
Downtown Owosso is the busiest place in the county this weekend. Owosso Vintage Motorcycle Days opens Friday at 6 p.m. downtown and runs Saturday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Washington Street and the surrounding blocks, according to the community calendar. Washington Street is closed off and used as festival grounds during Vintage Motorcycle Days, so if your Saturday errands normally take you through that part of downtown, plan around it.
Friday starts quieter. The Shiawassee Council on Aging's Durand Center holds its Birthday Cake gathering at 4:30 p.m. — the center's regular monthly cake, open to anyone who comes. On the fields, Owosso plays at Pinckney and Mesick visits Byron in football, and Ovid-Elsie plays soccer at Lowell. The calendar does not list start times for the games.
Saturday morning the Downtown Owosso Farmers Market opens at 9 a.m. at the market site, running alongside the festival crowd on Washington Street.
In Ovid, Owosso Speedway runs Young Owosso Championship Night 1 on Saturday at 7204 W. M-21. The Current reported earlier this month that the Aug. 29 card opens the track's championship nights and includes a 40-lap late model finale, and that mini wedges are not on the Aug. 29 program.
Saturday is a long day of soccer. Perry hosts three matches — Stockbridge, Leslie and Charlotte — and also hosts Byron in volleyball. Corunna hosts Laingsburg and then travels to Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy. Durand has three at home: Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy, Corunna and Laingsburg. Laingsburg also plays at Saginaw Arts & Sciences Academy. That is 13 games across the county between Friday and Saturday.
A few things the verified schedules do not answer: kickoff and first-serve times for most of the games, and Vintage Motorcycle Days' full hour-by-hour lineup, admission and vendor details beyond the start and end times listed on the community calendar. Those come from the schools and the festival organizers.
What happens next: game results post to our live scoreboard at /scoreboard/ on game nights. If your church, school, township or business has an event we missed, send it to [email protected] and we will verify it for next Thursday's weekend rundown.
