Chesaning amends Sept. 1 minutes, sets next meeting for Sept. 15

The Chesaning Village Council's next meeting is Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m., according to an amended synopsis of the council's Sept. 1 meeting posted by the village. The date matters because the version of the synopsis the village put out first left the next meeting date in doubt, a discrepancy The Current flagged as an open question on Sept. 8.

Sept. 15 is a third Tuesday, which matches the council's recent pattern of meeting on the first and third Tuesdays of the month — July 7 and July 21, Aug. 4 and Aug. 18, then Sept. 1, all covered in our earlier reporting.

Nothing else in the amended document changes what the council did that night. All seven members — Hoover, Navarre, Larner, Danek, Bueche, Wenzel and Chludil — were present. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and adjourned at 8 p.m. There was no public comment and no items for introduction.

The one action item was Halloween: the council set trick-or-treat hours at 5:30 to 8 p.m. The synopsis records that the motion carried but does not say what date the hours apply to, and it does not record how each member voted.

The consent agenda carried $286,571.69 in accounts payable dated Aug. 18, the Aug. 18 meeting minutes, and a separate $5,600 invoice from a vendor listed only as Rootnote. The synopsis does not say what the Rootnote invoice was for or why it was listed apart from the accounts payable total. It also does not itemize the $286,571.69.

The synopsis was submitted by Village Clerk Tina Powell, who recorded the minutes, and approved by Village Administrator Tom Ebenhoeh. Copies of the full minutes — which contain more detail than the synopsis — are available on request at the village office, open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

What happens next: The council meets again Sept. 15 at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers. The Current has asked what the $5,600 Rootnote invoice covers and what date the 5:30-8 p.m. trick-or-treat hours apply to; neither has been answered in the village's own records.
