Chesaning council approves Candle Walk M-57 closures, $135,493.98 in bills
The village council met Aug. 4 with all seven members present, cleared accounts payable and approved a two-night state highway closure for the Candle Walk in November.
The Chesaning Village Council approved a request from Candle Walk organizers to close M-57 on Friday, Nov. 27, and Saturday, Nov. 28, from 4:30 p.m. until 9 p.m., according to the synopsis minutes of the Aug. 4 regular meeting.
The minutes record that the motion carried. They do not list individual votes or a vote margin.
All seven council members were present: Navarre, Larner, Danek, Bueche, Wenzel, Hoover and Chludil. The minutes list no absences. The regular meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m.
The council approved the evening's agenda and a consent agenda that included the meeting minutes from July 21, 2026, and accounts payable dated Aug. 4, 2026, totaling $135,493.98. The minutes note no public statements were made.
Under items for introduction, David Pappenheimer gave an update on the Vietnam Memorial Wall. According to the minutes, the opening ceremony is set for Sept. 4 at 9 a.m.
The meeting adjourned at 8 p.m. The synopsis minutes were submitted by Village Clerk Tina Powell and approved by Village Administrator Tom Ebenhoeh. The minutes state that copies of the full meeting minutes are available upon request at the village office, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
What happens next
The council's next meeting is Aug. 18, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., according to the minutes. The Vietnam Memorial Wall opening ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 4 at 9 a.m., and the approved Candle Walk closures of M-57 take effect Nov. 27 and Nov. 28.
