Chesaning council to set Halloween trick-or-treat hours Tuesday
The only action item on the Sept. 1 village council agenda is Halloween hours; the consent agenda carries $292,171.69 in bills.
Chesaning families will find out Tuesday night what hours the village is setting for trick-or-treating. Setting Halloween trick-or-treat hours is the only item listed for action on the Village Council's Sept. 1 agenda, which the village posted this week. The agenda does not name the hours being proposed.
The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in Council Chambers at the village offices, 218 N. Front St. Public comment on any topic, including agenda items, is limited to three minutes. The agenda notes that questions to the board will be recorded and may be answered at the following meeting so members can confirm the accuracy of any answer, and that comment time "shall not be interpreted as a means to initiate dialog or debate."
The consent agenda groups three items to be handled in a single roll-call vote: the minutes of the Aug. 18 meeting and $292,171.69 in accounts payable dated Sept. 1. Any board member, staff member or member of the public may ask that an item be pulled off the consent agenda for separate discussion, and the agenda says all such requests will be granted.
That bill total is larger than recent months. The Current reported the council cleared $135,493.98 in bills on Aug. 4, $207,962.86 on July 21 and $148,323 on July 7. The agenda does not break down what the September payables cover.
There is no unfinished business and nothing listed for introduction or discussion. The rest of the agenda is committee reports — infrastructure, finance and administration, public safety, DDA, Chamber of Commerce board, planning commission, airport, fire board, task force and parks — followed by councilmember statements and the administrator's report.
Halloween falls on a Saturday this year, Oct. 31. Michigan villages commonly set a window for trick-or-treating rather than leaving it open-ended; the hours Chesaning picks Tuesday are the ones that will be published for the village.
What happens next: The council meets at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 218 N. Front St., Suite A. Full minutes are available at the village office, open weekdays 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The next regular meeting after that is Tuesday, Sept. 15, also at 7:30 p.m.
