Chesaning sets trick-or-treat hours at 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Chesaning has set its trick-or-treat hours: 5:30 to 8 p.m. The village council approved the hours at its Sept. 1 meeting, according to the synopsis minutes signed by Village Clerk Tina Powell. The minutes list the item under "Items for Action" and record only that the motion carried; they do not give a date for the hours, and they do not record how each member voted.

Halloween falls on Saturday, Oct. 31 this year.

All seven council members were present — Hoover, Navarre, Larner, Danek, Bueche, Wenzel and Chludil — with no absences, the minutes show. The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. and adjourned at 8 p.m. No one spoke during public statement, and no items were introduced for a future vote.

The council also cleared its consent agenda, which carried $286,571.69 in accounts payable dated Aug. 18 and a separate Rootnote invoice of $5,600, along with the minutes of the Aug. 18 meeting. That is $292,171.69 in bills approved in a single vote. The synopsis does not break out what the accounts payable total covers or what the Rootnote invoice was for.

The figure is the largest accounts payable total the council has cleared in recent months. The Current has reported the village approving $206,501 in bills on June 16, $148,323 and then $207,962.86 in July, and $135,493.98 on Aug. 4.

One line in the synopsis does not square with the village's usual calendar. The minutes state the next meeting is "September 2nd, 2026 at 7:30pm" — the day after the Sept. 1 meeting. Chesaning's council has been meeting on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, which would put the next regular meeting on Sept. 15. The desk has asked the village office to confirm which date is correct.
