New Haven Township board OKs $4,500 cemetery tree removal, $13,241.76 in bills

The New Haven Township Board approved a $4,500 quote for tree removal at West Haven Cemetery on a unanimous roll call vote at its regular meeting on July 13, according to minutes signed by Township Clerk Colleen Horton.

Clerk Horton moved to approve the quote, which the minutes say was presented by Greg Weinert. Trustee Gray supported the motion. A roll call vote was taken and recorded as all ayes.

The board also approved payment of expenses totaling $13,241.76 from the Horizon Bank General Fund. Treasurer Eickholt moved, Trustee Gray supported, and the roll call vote was recorded as all ayes.

All five board members were present for the 7 p.m. meeting at the township hall at 2705 Easton Road in Owosso: Supervisor DeLong, Treasurer Eickholt, Trustee Gray, Trustee Richardson and Clerk Horton. Supervisor DeLong called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Heather Wirwicki and Lee Horton were listed as guests.

Treasurer Eickholt presented the treasurer's report as of June 30, 2026. It listed a General Fund total of $992,770.89, made up of $74,909.65 at Horizon, $917,736.73 in MI Class and $124.51 at MSU Credit Union. Other funds included the Perpetual Care accounts at Horizon ($4,674.03) and MI Class ($41,881.70), the Two Mill Road accounts at Horizon ($128,494.38) and MI Class ($14,902.47), the Ambulance account ($2,136.15), the Fire account ($576.10) and the Tax Checking account ($2,845.86). The report put the total of all funds at $1,188,281.58. The board approved it on a unanimous roll call vote after a motion by Trustee Gray, supported by Clerk Horton.

The board also approved the agenda as amended, the June 8 regular meeting minutes and the June 18 special meeting minutes, each on all-aye voice votes. The minutes record no public participation in either of the two public comment periods and no items listed for future action.

Under board correspondence, Supervisor DeLong shared information on cemetery flags, assessing tree health at the cemeteries and Shiawassee County Road Commission invoices. Treasurer Eickholt noted the annual audit report had been received and a reduction in revenue sharing funds in June. Clerk Horton commented on budgeting more funds for cemetery tree issues and referenced public accuracy testing at the township hall. Trustee Gray shared information on upcoming tree trimming at the Henderson and Seymour Road intersection. Trustee Richardson had nothing to report.
