Perry Township board OKs $3,556 SEDP pledge, names Nick Miller to planning panel
Three of five board members were present July 1 as the Perry Township Board approved an economic development pledge, a $700 electrical repair and two Planning Commission changes, according to the meeting minutes.

The Perry Township Board approved a $3,556 pledge to the Shiawassee Economic Development Partnership and filled an open Planning Commission seat at its regular meeting on July 1, according to the minutes signed by Clerk Veronica Howard.
Three of the five board members were present: Supervisor Mark Fulks, Treasurer Troy Parmalee and Trustee Francis Griffith. Clerk Veronica Howard and Trustee Mark Fraser were listed as absent. Beth Andrus of the Planning Commission and Al Sipes attended as guests, the minutes state.
On the SEDP pledge, Parmalee moved approval and Griffith seconded. The roll call recorded ayes from Parmalee, Griffith and Fulks, and the motion carried, the minutes state.
The board also accepted a proposal for office electrical work not to exceed $700. According to the minutes, Parmalee said an electrical wire running from the ceiling to the deputy treasurer's computer needs to be rerouted to clean up a hanging cord and a trip hazard on the floor. He said he discussed the job with electrician Steve Darling, who will provide the service for the not-to-exceed amount. Parmalee moved to accept the proposal and Griffith seconded; Parmalee, Fulks and Griffith all voted aye.
For the vacant Planning Commission position, the minutes say Fulks and Parmalee discussed a letter of interest from Nick Miller, and that Andrus, the Planning Commission chair, and the supervisor met with Miller on June 30 to discuss his interest. They stated he would be a good fit, according to the minutes. Parmalee moved to appoint Miller to the open seat, which expires March 31, 2027; Griffith seconded, and Parmalee, Griffith and Fulks voted aye.
The board also changed its own representative to the Planning Commission. Citing illness, Parmalee moved to replace Fraser effective immediately with Griffith and to revisit the assignment when Fraser's health improves. Fulks seconded, and Parmalee, Fulks and Griffith voted aye, the minutes state.
In reports, the minutes note the Downtown Development Authority's next meeting was set for July 15, and that Fulks said the groundbreaking for Centennial Woodworking on Lansing Road was held June 15. The Shiawassee Shared Emergency Services Authority reported two new ambulances would be in service soon. The zoning report listed four zoning permits issued and five enforcements sent out. The Planning Commission met June 18 and discussed several zoning issues and updates.
The board also approved the financial statement to pay the bills on a motion from Griffith, seconded by Fulks, with ayes from Parmalee, Fulks and Griffith. On unfinished business, the minutes state the current lawn care contract runs through 2027 with a slight increase in the 2027 year, and that no changes will be accepted. There was no public comment at any of the three opportunities listed.
What happens next
