Michigan State Police, drone at Corunna's McNeil Street Market
A reader reported multiple state police vehicles and a drone over the market late Wednesday night; police have released nothing.
A large Michigan State Police presence, including multiple patrol vehicles and a police drone in the air, was at McNeil Street Market in Corunna late Wednesday night. That is according to a reader report to The Current at about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday and to witness video posted to social media.
As of 10:20 p.m., the Michigan State Police had issued no public statement about what is happening. No regional news outlet had reported it either. The Current checked the MSP newsroom, ABC12, WNEM, WLNS and MLive Flint.
Video posted to Facebook earlier Wednesday evening, at about 6:15 p.m., by the account "The Family's Soup TV 2.0," shows the area near the market at night and describes a large police presence there.
The same Facebook post described a man on parole holding a woman at gunpoint and forcing her to drive him to the market. No law-enforcement source has confirmed any part of that account. The Current is not naming anyone and is not describing any charge, because police have released none.
Here is what is not known: whether anyone is in custody, whether anyone is hurt, whether the scene is contained, whether nearby streets are closed, and when the police presence began. The Michigan State Police is the statewide police agency, and information in incidents it handles typically comes from its own public affairs office.
What happens next: The Current will update this story as police release information. Readers near McNeil Street Market should follow directions from officers on scene.
