Byron's football team lost 84-66 to Dryden on Saturday, Oct. 3, the only verified final the county scoreboard produced that day. The two teams combined for 150 points.

Byron plays 8-player football, the format used by smaller schools across mid-Michigan. The Current's verified preseason schedule showed the Eagles with a nine-game slate this fall — four home dates and five road trips — closing Oct. 23 at Marlette. Our score desk logged the final and nothing else: not plays, not possessions, not who scored.

Two county volleyball matches were still out when the scoreboard closed for the night. Port Huron played at New Lothrop and Chesaning played at Bath, and neither result was available at deadline.

Byron's season record remains incomplete in our logs for a reason that has not changed since August. The Eagles' home opener against Mesick on Aug. 28 has never been confirmed, and Byron High School still owes that final — now more than a month outstanding. Without it, no honest record can be printed for the program.

That gap is part of a wider one. The Current has formally asked every county athletic department to supply its own official season records so our logged marks can be reconciled. No department has answered. Seven football finals from Friday, Oct. 2 — Owosso at Goodrich, Chesaning at Mt. Morris, Montrose at Durand, Saranac at Perry, Ovid-Elsie at New Lothrop, Bath at Laingsburg and Morrice at Coleman — have also not come back, and neither have the finals from the eight-game slates of Sept. 28 and Sept. 29.

The dossier does not say whether Byron played Dryden at home or on the road, and we are not going to guess.

What happens next

Scores update through the night on our live scoreboard at /scoreboard/. The volleyball results from New Lothrop and Chesaning, the seven Oct. 2 football finals and Byron's Aug. 28 opener stay on the desk's open list until the schools report them.
