Owosso Nationals: CRA 100 goes green 6:30 p.m. Sept. 26 in Ovid

The season finale at Owosso Speedway now has a clock on it. The track posted run-of-show schedules Thursday for both nights of the Owosso Nationals, Friday, Sept. 25 and Saturday, Sept. 26, at 7204 W. M-21 in Ovid, and the headline event — the Turn One CRA Pro Series Owosso Nationals 100 — is scheduled to take the green flag at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

The format is the part racers will notice first. "Owosso Nationals are Features Only for everyone except mini wedges," the schedule says. There are no heat races on either night; cars qualify, then race. Every full-size class must run the feature on the same tires it qualified on, marked in tech — sport compacts, street stocks, late model sportsman, trucks, modifieds and the Outlaw Super Late Models all carry that note.

Saturday's card stacks two 100-lap races on the same program: the CRA Pro Series 100 opens the show, with the Modified feature at 50 laps and the Modified semi-feature at 25 in between, and then the Outlaw Super Late Model feature at 100 laps, followed by a 25-lap Pure Stock feature. The Champion Racing Association is a regional touring series for asphalt late models. The Current reported Aug. 26 that the Day 2 page listed the CRA cars and the supporting classes but carried no times at all; those are now filled in.

The Saturday timetable is long. The credential office and CRA hauler parking open at 8:30 a.m., the garage area at 9, and CRA technical inspection starts at 9:20 a.m. Practice runs from noon to 3:30 p.m., qualifying starts at 4 p.m. — the same minute the general admission gate opens — and driver introductions are at 6:10 p.m., with drivers out of their cars at the car. Fans with scanners can find the track on RACEceiver 454.00 and pit radio at 89.9 FM.

Friday is the local-classes night. Pit gates open at noon with fuel and tire sales at 12:05 p.m., rotating practice runs from 1 to 3:45 p.m., and qualifying starts with sport compacts at 4:15 p.m. and finishes with trucks at 5:30. General admission opens at 4 p.m. Mini wedges race at 6 p.m., after opening ceremonies at 5:45. The features: Sport Compact A at 25 laps, Street Stock A at 30, Late Model Sportsman A at 40 and the Truck feature at 25, with B features for the sport compacts at 15 laps and for the street stocks at 15 if the car count requires one.

The Outlaw Super Late Models last ran a 100-lap feature in Ovid on Aug. 22, when The Current reported that Chad Finley of St. Johns came from eighth to win the Ron Hauser Memorial 100, and Owosso's Bo Smith finished third in Late Model Sportsman.

Two things the schedule does not answer: what it costs to get in, and who is racing. The Nationals pages still carry no general admission or pit pass price, and neither the track nor the CRA has posted an entry list for the Pro Series 100. The same gap remains on the track's other October show — The Current reported Sept. 16 that the Destruction Overload card moved to Oct. 3 without a confirmed class list or ticket prices, and that the Oct. 3 page describes a "Sept 19th rainout" that had not happened yet. The track has not explained that.

What happens next: Pit gates open at noon Friday, Sept. 25, with the grandstand opening at 4 p.m. both nights; the CRA Pro Series Owosso Nationals 100 is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26. Owosso Speedway notes both schedules are tentative and may shift with car count. The Current has asked the track for admission prices and an entry list.
