Owosso Speedway sets 40-lap late model finale for Aug. 29 in Ovid

Owosso Speedway has posted the full run-of-show for Saturday's Young Owosso Championship Night 1, and it answers the question the earlier listing left open: how long the races are. The Late Model Sportsman feature is scheduled for 40 laps, the Truck Series and Pure Stock features for 25 laps each, and the Dwarf Cars for 20.

The card at the 3/8-mile asphalt oval on W. M-21 outside Ovid is a championship points night. As The Current reported Tuesday, the four titles at stake are Late Model Sportsman, Pure Stocks, Trucks and the dwarf car class. The night is presented by Young Chevrolet.

If you are going, the front gate opens at 4 p.m. and racing begins at 6 p.m. Tickets are sold at the front gate or online through showpass.com/o/owosso-speedway. The track lists RACEceiver on 454.00 and pit radio on 89.9 FM.

For drivers and crews, the day starts much earlier. The pit gate opens at noon, along with fuel and tire sales. Practice runs by division in half-hour blocks from 1 p.m. — Late Model Sportsman, Pure Stock, Truck Series, Dwarf Cars, then a second round for the late models, pure stocks and trucks. Late Model Sportsman tech begins at 3:45 p.m., pure stock tech at 4:20 and truck tech at 4:35. Group qualifying starts at 4:30 p.m. and runs in 10-minute blocks through 5 p.m. The drivers meeting is at 5:15 and opening ceremonies at 5:45.

Heat races open the racing program at 6 p.m., followed by a 15-minute intermission and then the four features. The track notes the whole schedule is tentative and depends on car count.

The posted schedule also lines up with the correction the track issued this week. As we reported Wednesday, mini wedges are not on Saturday's card — an early-season editing error had put the class in the event description — and Saturday's run-of-show lists no mini wedge practice, qualifying or feature. Their last race and their points championship come on Sept. 12, Championship Night 2, although the class is still listed on the Sept. 25 Owosso Nationals Day 1 page, a contradiction the track has not yet resolved.

Two things the track has not published: who leads the points in any of the four classes going into Saturday, and what general admission and pit passes cost. The purse is not listed on the schedule either. Owosso Speedway posts standings on its points page, and this desk is asking for the rest.

What happens next: Championship Night 1 runs Saturday, Aug. 29, with the front gate at 4 p.m. and the green flag at 6. Championship Night 2 follows Sept. 12, Destruction Overload is Sept. 19, and the Owosso Nationals close the season Sept. 25-26.
