Owosso Speedway says Sept. 12 decides four titles in Ovid

Owosso Speedway has answered part of the question drivers and families have been asking about the last three weekends of the season: Saturday, Sept. 12 is a title night. the track in Ovid's event page for Young Owosso Championship Night 2 says of the street stock, sport compact, mini wedge and modified fields that "the season long work is paid off with the points championship tonight."

That matters most in the mini wedges. The Current reported Aug. 26 that the track told racers the class was never supposed to be on the Aug. 29 Championship Night 1 card — an early-season editing error put it there — and that Sept. 12 is the class's last race of the year. Now the track's own page for Sept. 12 says the points championship is settled that night.

The times, from the same page: pits open at 11 a.m., hot laps at 1 p.m., the front gate opens at 4 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m. on the 3/8-mile asphalt oval at 7204 W. M-21. That is the same 4-and-6 gate-and-green pattern the track used for Championship Night 1. The classes are listed with their sponsors: Dort Financial Credit Union street stocks, Applebee's Oil and Propane sport compacts, DuroTech mini wedges and Valley Freightliner modifieds. The page also says the card is available on Track TV.

One contradiction is still standing. The speedway's Owosso Nationals Day 1 page for Friday, Sept. 25 lists mini wedges among its classes, alongside Late Model Sportsman, street stocks, trucks and sport compacts. If Sept. 12 is the class's last night, the Sept. 25 listing is wrong; if the Sept. 25 listing is right, Sept. 12 is not the last night. The track has not said which. Anyone hauling a wedge car has a real reason to want that resolved before Sept. 12.

The track also has not published who leads any of these divisions going into the night. Standings are kept on the speedway's points page; the desk has not been able to report leaders in Late Model Sportsman, pure stocks, trucks, street stocks, sport compact or the wedge and dwarf classes, and no purse or lap counts are posted for the Sept. 12 features.

Between the championship nights and the Nationals comes Destruction "O"verload on Saturday, Sept. 19. As of Thursday, that event page carried no classes, no gate time, no green flag time and no ticket prices — it points fans to MyRacePass for full event information. The same is true of both Nationals nights on Sept. 25 and Sept. 26.

What the pages do show is open practice on the Wednesdays in between. Test-and-tune sessions are listed for Sept. 9, Sept. 16 and Sept. 23, with pits open at 3 p.m. and the track open from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m.
