Owosso Speedway lists school bus figure 8, motorhome race in Ovid
A page labeled "Timing and Scoring Testing" on the Ovid track's site finally spells out the Destruction Overload classes — and shows a six-car feature won by Lansing's Gavin Anspach.
The class list for Owosso Speedway's Destruction Overload has finally surfaced, and it reads like the demolition end of a race card: a rear-wheel-drive figure 8, an enduro school bus figure 8, stacker cars, a pull race, a gauntlet, a motorhome race, a trailer race, front- and rear-wheel-drive flagpole events, an oval enduro and a class the track calls Back to School.
The list appears on a page on the Ovid track's site dated Sept. 10 and titled "Timing and Scoring Testing," which is how a track exercises its MyRacePass scoring software. That matters for how much weight to put on it: the page carries no gate time, no qualifying time, no green flag and no admission price, and the track has not said whether the entries shown on it are live results or test data.
What the page does show is a Destruction Overload A Feature with six entries. Gavin Anspach of Lansing is listed as the winner from the second starting spot, with Jackson Wheeler of Millington second after starting sixth. Four drivers are listed as did-not-start: Aaron Abeare of Flint, Christopher Atwell of Birch Run, Brandon Barcus of Kendallville, Ind., and Neil Beukema of Holt.
The Current reported on Aug. 28 that Destruction Overload was on the speedway's calendar for Saturday, Sept. 19, but that the event page then carried no class list, no start times and no ticket prices — and that the text on the page described a Sept. 16 open practice instead. The class list above is the first thing to fill that gap. The times and prices for Sept. 19 are still not posted.
None of this changes what is on the track's schedule for this weekend. Owosso Speedway's Championship Night 2 runs Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7204 W. M-21 in Ovid, with four season titles on the line — street stock, sport compact, mini wedge and modified. As The Current reported from the track's own event page, the pits open at 11 a.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m., with a 50-lap modified feature as the headline event. The track has still published no purse and no general admission or pit pass prices for Saturday; tickets are sold at the front gate or through showpass.com/o/owosso-speedway.
Two other questions the desk has put to the track are also still open. Owosso Speedway has not posted points standings telling fans who leads any of the four championship classes or who can clinch Saturday, and the mini wedges are still listed both on the Sept. 12 card and on the Owosso Nationals Day 1 page for Friday, Sept. 25 — after the track had called Sept. 12 their last race of the season.
What happens next: Saturday's four features run Sept. 12 in Ovid, and results should post to the track's event page and MyRacePass afterward. Destruction Overload is next on the calendar for Sept. 19, and the track owes fans start times and ticket prices for it.
