Owosso Speedway: mini wedges are not racing Aug. 29 in Ovid
The Ovid track says an early-season editing error put the class in the description for Saturday's Championship Night 1; the only mini wedge race left is Sept. 12.
If your family races a mini wedge, do not load the trailer for Saturday. Owosso Speedway posted a bulletin Wednesday telling mini wedge teams the class is not on the card for Aug. 29 at the M-21 oval in Ovid.
"An editing error in early season scheduling had mini wedges in the description of this Saturdays event," the track's bulletin said. "They were not listed in the scheduled classes running, or part of any published schedule for that date."
The track says the only mini wedge race left is Championship Night 2 on Saturday, Sept. 12, where the class is listed with the other divisions running that night.
The correction matters because Saturday is the first of the track's two championship programs. The Current reported Wednesday that points titles in Late Model Sportsman, Pure Stocks, Trucks and the wedge/dwarf class are on the line Aug. 29, with gates at 4 p.m. and racing at 6 p.m. on the 3/8-mile asphalt oval. The bulletin does not change those times or the rest of that lineup.
It does leave one thing unsettled. When the speedway posted its Day 1 page for the Owosso Nationals earlier this week, mini wedges appeared among the classes scheduled for Friday, Sept. 25, alongside Late Model Sportsman, Street Stocks, Trucks and Sport Compact. Wednesday's bulletin says Sept. 12 is the class's last race of the year. The track has not explained which listing is correct.
Owosso Speedway is at 7204 W. M-21 in Ovid and lists Rex Wheeler as owner; the track's published contact number is (989) 461-7223.
The desk also still has no published division points standings going into Saturday — who leads Late Model Sportsman, Pure Stocks, Trucks, Street Stocks, Sport Compact or the wedge and dwarf classes. Those are kept on the track's points page.
What happens next: Championship Night 1 runs Saturday, Aug. 29, without mini wedges. Championship Night 2, with mini wedges listed, is set for Saturday, Sept. 12. We have asked the speedway to confirm whether the class is also on the Sept. 25 Owosso Nationals card, and will report what it says.
