Perry, New Lothrop Sept. 11 football finals still unreported

Four days after the games ended, four of the seven Shiawassee County football teams that played Friday, Sept. 11 still have no confirmed final score on this desk: Perry at Pewamo-Westphalia, Ovid-Elsie at LakeVille Memorial, Laingsburg at Fowler and New Lothrop at Montrose. All four kicked off at 7 p.m., according to the county scoreboard dossier. None has come back with a result.

Three of the seven did. The Current reported that Owosso won 24-20 at Lake Fenton, Corunna beat Clio 30-14, and Durand beat Chesaning 49-14 in the night's county-vs-county game. Adding those to the records the scoreboard listed before kickoff, Owosso and Corunna each sit at 1-1, Chesaning at 1-1 and Durand at 2-1.

The missing four are the ones that matter most to the standings. Perry went into Pewamo-Westphalia at 2-0 and New Lothrop went into Montrose at 2-0 — the county's two unbeaten football programs as of Sept. 11. Ovid-Elsie was 0-2 going to LakeVille Memorial and Laingsburg was 0-2 at Fowler. Until the finals come in, this desk cannot say whether any of those four records changed.

The gap is not limited to one Friday. The Current previewed the Sept. 12 Morrice football road game at Portland St. Patrick and still has no score. Byron's home opener against Mesick, played Aug. 28, has never been confirmed, which leaves the Eagles without a logged football record even though we did report their 36-8 loss to Deckerville. Four Laingsburg results from Sept. 12 — volleyball at Williamston and soccer at Kettering, at Fowlerville and at Swartz Creek — are also outstanding.

So are all six county games from Monday, Sept. 14, which this desk previewed: Clio at Owosso volleyball, Owosso soccer at Fenton, Laingsburg volleyball at Ithaca, Ovid-Elsie soccer at Ithaca, Perry soccer at Lansing Christian and Corunna volleyball at Brandon.
