New Lothrop 54-0, and two county teams lose Aug. 27 openers by two

New Lothrop opened its season at home on Thursday, Aug. 27 with a 54-0 win over Muskegon Catholic Central, according to verified final scores logged by our score desk on the county scoreboard. It was the widest margin of the county's seven-game football night.

Chesaning was the other lopsided home result, beating Standish-Sterling 57-20. Perry won 42-12 over Addison, and Morrice, opening on the road at Brown City as scheduled, won 28-21.

The rest of the night came down to two points a game. Tri County Area beat Ovid-Elsie 30-28 in Elsie, and Vandercook Lake beat Laingsburg 22-20 in Laingsburg. Both were season openers at home for the county teams, per the schedules The Current verified in August.

The third two-point finish was the county-vs-county game we reported Friday: Durand 14, Corunna 13. That makes three of Thursday's seven games decided by a single score, and four county wins against three losses across the slate.

Three Thursday games are still open. Final results were not available at deadline for Potterville at Perry soccer, Durand at Swartz Creek soccer, and Potterville at Byron volleyball. We are not reporting a score for any of the three until the score desk confirms one.
