Owosso edges Clio 8-7; Ovid-Elsie blanks Mt. Morris 56-0
Eight of the county's 10 football finals are in from Friday night, with Corunna's and Durand's games not available at deadline.
Owosso won its home game against Clio by a single point Friday night, 8-7, the closest finish on a 10-game county football schedule. It was the tightest of the eight finals our score desk confirmed from the evening of Friday, Sept. 18.
Ovid-Elsie put up the night's biggest number, shutting out Mt. Morris 56-0 in Elsie. New Lothrop held off Birch Run 28-21 at home for the county's other win.
The rest of the county came up short. Montrose beat Chesaning 41-14. Fowler shut out Perry 40-0. Kingston beat Byron 44-18. Saranac shut out Laingsburg 21-0. Dansville beat Morrice 38-25.
Two finals were not available at deadline: Ortonville Brandon at Corunna and LakeVille Memorial at Durand. We will post both on the scoreboard as soon as the score desk confirms them, and we are not reporting a score for either game until then.
The Current previewed all 10 games Friday, when every one of the county's football programs was scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. Our score desk logs finals only — not records, standings or how a game was played — so nothing above should be read as a season mark.
One older result is still outstanding. Byron's 8-player home opener against Mesick on Aug. 28 has never been confirmed to this desk, three weeks on. Until it is, the Eagles' logged record reflects only the 36-8 loss to Deckerville.
