Durand at Chesaning soccer leads 7 county games tonight

Durand carries the busiest night in Shiawassee County on Tuesday, and both halves of it are against county opponents. The soccer team plays at Chesaning at 6 p.m. at 2-1; the volleyball team, also 2-1, goes to Ovid-Elsie at 7 p.m.

Chesaning's soccer team is 1-1. Ovid-Elsie volleyball is 1-2. Those are the only two in-county matchups on a seven-game slate that otherwise sends county teams out of the county or brings outside opponents in.

The rest of the night: Dansville at Laingsburg soccer at 5:30 p.m., with Laingsburg 0-3; Byron volleyball at Montrose at 6:45, with the Eagles 0-1; Birch Run at Chesaning volleyball at 6:45, Chesaning 1-1; Montrose at Ovid-Elsie soccer at 7, the Marauders 1-2; and New Lothrop volleyball at Lakeville at 7, New Lothrop 2-1.

Chesaning is the only school in the county hosting twice — soccer against Durand at 6 and volleyball against Birch Run 45 minutes later. Ovid-Elsie also hosts two, with Montrose in for soccer and Durand in for volleyball, both at 7.

The records above are computed only from games this desk has logged, which means several of them are incomplete. The Current still has no finals from any of the six county games played Monday, Sept. 14, including Clio at Owosso volleyball, Owosso soccer at Fenton, Laingsburg volleyball at Ithaca, Ovid-Elsie soccer at Ithaca, Perry soccer at Lansing Christian and Corunna volleyball at Brandon. Laingsburg's Friday volleyball match at Williamston and three Sept. 12 Laingsburg soccer results are also outstanding.

Football is further behind. Four Sept. 11 games — Perry at Pewamo-Westphalia, Ovid-Elsie at LakeVille Memorial, Laingsburg at Fowler and New Lothrop at Montrose — have no confirmed final here four days later, and neither does Morrice's Sept. 12 road game at Portland St. Patrick.
