Chesaning, Corunna host in a six-game county Thursday
Five soccer matches and one volleyball trip fill the Sept. 24 slate, with Chesaning and Corunna the only county teams playing at home.
Six county teams are in action Thursday night, and only two of them sleep in their own beds. Chesaning hosts Birch Run at 6 p.m. and Corunna hosts More Academy at 6 p.m. Everyone else travels.
Chesaning's soccer team goes into its home match at 1-2 in games we have logged. Corunna is 1-1. Those are the only two home dates on the board tonight, so if you want to watch county soccer without a drive, that is where to go.
The early window belongs to three road trips, all at 5:30 p.m.: Laingsburg at Potterville, Ovid-Elsie at Lakeville and Perry at Dansville. Ovid-Elsie and Perry both carry 2-2 logged records. Laingsburg is 0-4 and still looking for its first win in the games we have logged.
The night's only volleyball match sends Morrice to Flint Southwestern Academy at 6:30 p.m. The Orioles are 1-2 in logged play.
One caveat on all of those numbers: they are records computed from completed games our score desk has logged, not official school-reported records, and the two can differ. The gap is wider than usual right now. The desk still has no confirmed finals from the 10 county football games played Friday, Sept. 18, none from the nine-game slate Tuesday, Sept. 22, and none from the six games we previewed Wednesday, Sept. 23 — including Goodrich at Owosso volleyball and Lake Fenton at Corunna. Byron's home football opener against Mesick has been unconfirmed since Aug. 28. Schools and coaches are the source for all of it, and we will log every final we get.
