Byron hosts Mesick in football opener tonight; Owosso at Pinckney

Byron has the county's only home game tonight. The Eagles open their 2026 season against Mesick with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Byron High School, the first of four home dates on an 8-player schedule that The Current published in August and that closes Oct. 23 at Marlette.

Owosso is on the road at the same hour, at Pinckney, 7 p.m. That makes two football games on the Friday card after the county's Thursday openers, including Durand's 14-13 win over Corunna.

The night starts earlier on the soccer field. Ovid-Elsie plays at Lowell at 6:45 p.m., the only county soccer game on tonight's schedule.

None of the three county teams playing tonight carries a record yet in our logged results, so there are no standings to read into these games. For Byron and Owosso, this is the first game that counts.
