Corunna hosts Holly at 6:30, county's only home game tonight
Three county teams play Monday — Corunna soccer at home, Owosso soccer at Swartz Creek and Laingsburg volleyball at Portland — and all three come in 0-1.
If you want to watch a Shiawassee County team in person tonight, there is one place to do it: Corunna hosts Holly in boys soccer at 6:30 p.m. It is the only home game on the county's schedule Monday.
The other two county teams travel. Owosso plays soccer at Swartz Creek, also at 6:30 p.m., and Laingsburg volleyball is at Portland with a 6 p.m. first serve.
All three go in without a win. Corunna's soccer team is 0-1, Owosso's soccer team is 0-1 and Laingsburg volleyball is 0-1, according to records computed from the games this desk has logged. Those are the only records the score desk can confirm tonight.
That gap is the story of the past five days as much as anything played on a field. The Current has published finals from only three of the county's opening-week games — New Lothrop's 54-0 win, Durand's 14-13 win over Corunna in the county football opener, and Owosso's 42-20 football loss at Pinckney. Still unconfirmed: Mesick at Byron football and Ovid-Elsie at Lowell soccer from Friday, Aug. 28; Potterville at Perry soccer, Durand at Swartz Creek soccer and Potterville at Byron volleyball from Thursday, Aug. 27; and Saturday's Byron at Perry volleyball match, which was the county's only game that day. We do not publish a score until the score desk confirms it, and we do not reconstruct games we did not attend.
Byron's football program, which opened at home against Mesick under the nine-game 8-player schedule we verified in August, still has no logged result. Coaches, athletic directors and scorekeepers who can confirm any of those finals should send them to the score desk.
Tonight, every county score updates live at shiawassee.news/scoreboard, and live scores appear right on the shiawassee.news homepage while games are in progress. It is free, there is no app and there is no paywall — tune into the live scoreboard for scores and updates all game long.
What happens next: finals from Monday's three games post to the scoreboard as they come in, and the desk will keep chasing the six unconfirmed openers from last week until the schools or the score desk report them.
