Perry volleyball, 2-0, hosts Saranac in 5 county games Wednesday

Perry's volleyball team carries the only winning record in Shiawassee County into Wednesday night. The Ramblers are 2-0 and host Saranac at 7 p.m., the last of five county games on the schedule and the only one where a home team has a win logged.

The rest of the night belongs to teams still looking for their first. Corunna volleyball (0-1) plays at Clio at 6:15 p.m. Lake Fenton visits Owosso volleyball (0-1) at 6:15. Laingsburg volleyball (0-2) travels to Portland St. Patrick at 7. Birch Run plays at Ovid-Elsie in soccer at 7, with the Marauders at 0-2.

There is no county-vs-county matchup Wednesday. That is a change from Tuesday, when the desk previewed seven games including Ovid-Elsie at New Lothrop and Durand at Byron volleyball.

A word about those records: they are computed only from games we have logged as complete, and the backlog is real. As The Current has reported since Aug. 28, Byron's home football opener against Mesick has never been confirmed, which is why Byron is the one county football program without a record. Eleven of the 14 games played Sept. 3 and all eight from Sept. 2 — including the volleyball quad Ovid-Elsie hosted in Elsie — are also still unconfirmed, along with Tuesday's seven. Schools and the score desk owe those finals, and until they come in, some teams here look emptier on paper than they were on the floor.
