Morrice will tow Main Street cars after 5:30 p.m. Saturday

If you park on Main Street in Morrice on Saturday and walk away, you may come back to an empty space. The village says any vehicle left on Main Street after 5:30 p.m. Sept. 12 will be towed.

The no-parking window is part of a set of closures the village posted for two separate events happening the same weekend: the Morrice 150-Year Celebration & Homecoming on Saturday and St. Mary's Fall Festival on Saturday and Sunday.

For the 150-Year Celebration, Morrice Community Park closes from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday, and W. Davis Street along the park closes from noon to 6:30 p.m. Main Street between Second and Third streets closes from 5 to 11:30 p.m., with no street parking during that time. The alley behind Morrice Insurance Agency is closed from 6 to 11:30 p.m.

For the Fall Festival, Main Street from Davis Street to Mason Street is closed Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. The village warns there will be no turnaround point at the Davis Street end of that closure — meaning drivers who head that way will have to plan another route in, not turn around at the barricade.

The 150-year milestone has been on display around the village for a while. The Current reported in August that the council hung a 150-year celebration banner at the transfer station.

The village's notice covers roads and parking only. It does not list a schedule of events, performers, a parade time or admission for either the celebration or the festival, and it does not say who is doing the towing or where a towed vehicle would be recovered.
