Byron school board weighs middle school boiler, energy bond tonight

Byron Area Schools' board meets tonight at 6:30 for a work session with two things on it, and both come down to money the district has not yet put a number on: whether to replace or repair the boiler at Byron Middle School, and an "Energy Bond" that has now appeared on two straight board agendas without a single supporting document.
The posted agenda lists the boiler as item V.A, "Middle School Boiler - Replace or Repair." It sits under "Discussion & Information Items," which means no vote is scheduled tonight. No cost estimate, contractor quote or engineering report is attached to the agenda in BoardBook, so the choice between fixing the existing boiler and buying a new one is being taken up in front of the public without the public seeing the price of either option.
The second item is the one to watch. The Current reported on Aug. 17 that an "energy bond presentation" opened Byron's regular meeting that night with nothing on the posted agenda to explain it — no size, no project list, no indication of whether a ballot question would follow. Two weeks later the words "Energy Bond" are back on the agenda, again as a discussion item, again with no attachments. That remains an open question on this desk.
The two items are plausibly connected — a failing boiler is the kind of building system districts finance through energy-related borrowing — but the agenda does not say so, and no document filed with it makes the link. We are not going to assert one.
