Morrice school board votes tonight on golf for spring 2027
The only action item on the Morrice Area Schools board's 6 p.m. agenda is a vote on golf for the spring 2027 season, with no supporting material attached.
The Morrice Area Schools Board of Education meets at 6 p.m. tonight at Morrice Jr./Sr. High School on Purdy Road, and the single item up for a vote is whether the district will have golf in the spring of 2027.
The agenda lists the action item only as "Golf for Spring 2027." It does not say whether the board is being asked to add a team, keep one, drop one, or enter a cooperative agreement with another district, and no cost figure, coaching plan or supporting document is attached to the agenda. Families with a golfer in the house will not learn from the posted packet which way this is headed.
Board President Jerry Dennis is listed to open the meeting. The roll call covers seven trustees: Dennis, Wyzga, Iler, Hovis, Hower, Binkley and Moncur.
Two items are down for discussion only, with no vote scheduled. One is a bond update. The Current reported in August that a bond update was also a discussion item on the board's Aug. 19 agenda, and again no written material is attached this time. The other is "Youth Football 7th & 8th," which the agenda leaves entirely undescribed.
The consent agenda, which is normally approved in a single vote, covers the minutes of the Aug. 19 regular meeting, the treasurer's and financial reports dated Aug. 31 and the personnel report. The personnel report is where hirings, resignations and assignments appear, but the agenda does not summarize what is in it.
This is the district's regular monthly meeting, and there is a community comment period on the agenda, along with a student representative report, a superintendent report and board comments. The posted notice says anyone who needs an accommodation to take part should call the superintendent's office at 517-625-3142 at least five days ahead.
What happens next: The board takes the golf vote tonight. The result, and any explanation of what the bond update and the youth football item involve, will appear in the minutes the board approves at its next regular meeting. We will report the outcome.
