Byron football loses 36-8 to Deckerville; Morrice final still out

Byron's football team lost 36-8 to Deckerville on Saturday, Sept. 12, the only county result confirmed by our score desk from a day that left five other games unreported.

That 28-point margin is all we can tell you about the game. Our desk logs scores, not plays, so there is no quarter-by-quarter breakdown, no scoring sequence and no individual statistics from the Eagles' trip.

We still cannot give Byron a season record. As The Current has reported since late August, the final from Byron's Aug. 28 home opener against Mesick has never been confirmed, and until Byron High School or the score desk supplies it, the Eagles' 2026 won-loss line stays blank. Our verified preseason schedule listed a nine-game 8-player slate for Byron, with four home dates and a close Oct. 23 at Marlette.

The county's other Saturday football game, Morrice at Portland St. Patrick, was not final at deadline. The Current previewed that game Friday as one of two county games on the board, and the result has not come back to us. We are not reporting a score for it.

Laingsburg accounted for the rest of the unfinished list — volleyball at Williamston and three soccer matches, at Kettering, at Fowlerville and at Swartz Creek. None had a confirmed final when the dossier closed.

That adds to a backlog the desk already owes readers. Six football finals from Friday, Sept. 11 remain unreported, and midweek soccer results, including Laingsburg at Perry, have not been confirmed. Schools and the score desk are the sources for all of it.
