New Lothrop loses 55-54 to Cheboygan; 8 county games still out

New Lothrop lost by a single point Friday night, 55-54 to Cheboygan, the only final our score desk had confirmed as the rest of the county's football slate was still being played.

The dossier logs the score and nothing else. We do not have the scoring sequence, the records or how the game turned, and we will not guess at any of them. What we can say is the margin: one point, in a game that produced 109 of them.

Eight other county games had no final available at deadline. Essexville Garber was at Owosso, Chesaning at Corunna, Bath at Durand, Perry at Vandercook Lake, Ovid-Elsie at Imlay City, Byron at Marlette, Carson City-Crystal at Laingsburg and Bad Axe at Morrice.

Chesaning at Corunna is the only county-vs-county matchup on that list, and Byron's trip to Marlette carries the most finality. The Current published Byron's verified nine-game 8-player schedule in August, and Marlette is the last line on it. Barring a postseason berth, Friday was the end of the Eagles' season.

The score desk is also still owed a stack of earlier results. Three football finals from Friday, Oct. 16 remain unconfirmed — Laingsburg at Michigan Lutheran Seminary, New Lothrop at LakeVille Memorial and Montabella at Morrice — along with the Oct. 9 and Oct. 10 games. On the volleyball side, no finals have come in from the county slates of Oct. 13, Oct. 14 or Oct. 20, which included Chesaning at Byron, nor from Thursday's three matches: Bentley at Morrice, Ovid-Elsie at Calvary Baptist Academy and Byron at Mt. Morris.
